How do I find the right counsellor?

This might be difficult especially if you are not sure how counselling can help you.  We offer an initial assesment session where we can discuss your difficulties as you see them and we can decide together whether your therapist is the right person to help you.

Do you have a waiting list - how long will it be until I see you?

We may have a waiting list if you want a particular time and day. However, we aim to contact you within 24 hours of your initial contact and will endeavour to set up an initial meeting within 7 working days.

What happens in the first session?

It will be helpful for you and your therapist to meet and decide on a focus for your work together.  It's very important that both you and your therapist believe that you can achieve your aims together.  We can discuss cost and duration of meetings.  You may also wish to enquire about my professional membership, experience and training.  During this time you will build up an idea of what is involved and you will be able to make up your mind if your therapist is a person you can work with.  It is important to be clear about what you want and what we can offer.

How much will personal therapy cost?

Our fees vary dependent on the experience of the therapist.  Experienced therapists will charge between £30 - £35 per 50 minute session. Less experienced therapists will charge between £15 and £25 per 50 minute session. Please contact us to discuss.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes except for an inital assessment which is 1 hour.  Some assessments may need to cover two sessions.

How long would I need counselling for?

This depends on your difficulties and what you want to achieve. This can be discussed at the inital appointment.

How do I know when I don't need counselling anymore?

We will review the work that we do together at regular times throughout therapy.  This ensures that we are both focused on your needs and how these might change as the therapy progresses.

What does counselling achieve?

Counselling and psychotherapy can achieve a feeling of well-being, understanding about ourselves and others, promote confidence and self esteem.

What do I need to prepare?

Nothing!  Just come to sessions with a willingness to enquire about yourself and others.
